Quipu Focus, the legible one

The same knots as Quipu, tied thicker. An hour stacked over a minute, three stats down each side, two arcs around the rim. Fewer fields, each one far bigger.

The idea

Focus started as a complaint we agreed with. A Quipu user posted his own rearrangement of our flagship - the numbers pulled apart, the clock made huge - because he wanted to read the face at a glance rather than study it. Changing Quipu would have taken that face away from everyone who liked it dense. So we built his arrangement as a face of its own.

The result is the same engine with a different composition. The hour sits above the minute in the middle of the dial, seconds tucked in the divider between them. Three stats run down the left, three down the right. Two goal arcs close the rim, top and bottom. Nothing was thinned out to make room: all six slots draw from the same 49-stat catalogue, and seven elements take their colour separately, exactly like the flagship.

The 49 stats

Six slots, and each one takes any stat in the catalogue - or Empty, if you want the dial quieter. Anything your watch cannot measure reads as a dash instead of a wrong number, and the rest of the face carries on.

Two of the choices are not single stats but whole columns: hourly forecast and daily forecast, three entries deep. Pick one for a slot and it takes over that entire side of the dial - a small forecast panel where three separate readings would otherwise sit.

Two arcs, nine metrics, three styles

Each arc gets its own metric and its own goal: steps, calories, intensity minutes, floors, distance, Body Battery, battery percent, battery days - or daylight, which puts sunrise and sunset at the arc's ends and fills it with how much of the day is left. Leave the goal at 0 and the arc follows your Garmin Connect target. Each arc can be switched off on its own, and the percentages at the ends hidden with it.

Three arc styles: ticks, band and blocks. They change the whole character of the rim without touching anything else.

Color, size, shape

Thirty-one accents, from calm pastels to strong reds, plus a custom hex field that accepts any color of your own. Seven elements take their color independently: the clock, the date and seconds, the text in the centre, the arcs, the marker, the stat values and the stat labels.

31 ACCENTS ACROSS 7 ELEMENTS · OR TYPE ANY HEX CODE

Three sizes, where the clock and the stats grow together rather than fighting each other. Labels as a word or as an icon. And the middle slot of each column can be marked in six ways - filled block, filled pill, outlined box, outlined pill, edge marks, or nothing at all - so the stat you care most about stands out. Values auto-fit, so nothing clips or overlaps in any of the 24 languages.

Every setting, explained

The honest fine print

Some stats depend on what your watch itself measures. Sleep score, training status and the next calendar event come from Garmin's Complications service, which the oldest supported models (Venu, Vivoactive 4, Fenix 6 line, Enduro, Descent Mk2) do not have; ascent, descent and pressure need a barometer; solar intensity needs a solar model; the race predictors need a running watch. Anything your watch cannot supply shows a dash rather than a wrong number.

Weather, the forecast and UV need your phone within Bluetooth reach now and then; without it the last known values stay on screen. Sunrise and sunset use your last GPS position. Active calories are our own estimate (total burn minus your resting metabolism) and can differ from Garmin's own widget - a platform limit every Connect IQ face shares, which is why the setting says so out loud. And on MIP panels the softest pastel accents lose some subtlety to the 64-color palette; the stronger accents translate best.

Frequently asked

Quipu or Quipu Focus - which one should I get?
They are the same engine with two different compositions. Quipu is the instrument panel: five stat slots, a three-day calendar strip and the whole day at once. Focus is the legible one: a two-line clock with the hour above the minute, three stats down the left and three down the right, each far bigger. If you find yourself squinting at a data-dense face, take Focus. If you want the maximum on screen, take Quipu. Both cost the same and both have the same depth of settings.
How many stats can Focus actually show at once?
Six, one in each of the six slots, plus whatever the two goal arcs are tracking. Any slot can also be set to Empty for a quieter dial, and either of the two columns can be handed over to a full forecast strip - hourly or daily, three entries deep - which fills that whole column instead of three separate stats.
Does Focus work on MIP watches like the Fenix 7?
Yes. Focus runs on both AMOLED and MIP displays, 67 models in total. On MIP the background stays black for contrast and every accent is remapped to the closest tone the 64-color panel can show. There is also a Light background option that exists only on MIP, and a Contours background that exists only on AMOLED.
Where do I change the settings?
In the Connect IQ app on your phone: your device, then Watch Faces, then Quipu Focus, then Settings. On watches with Garmin’s on-device editor you can also change the accent and the arc style right on the wrist by holding the watch face and choosing Customize. Choosing which stat goes in which slot is always done on the phone.
Does the weather need an account or a subscription?
No. You pick the source in settings: Garmin’s own weather, or MET Norway (yr.no), the Norwegian national weather institute, whose data is free and needs no account. The watch gets fresh data through your phone, so temperature, the condition icon, wind, humidity, UV and the forecast update whenever the phone is in reach.
Where did this face come from?
From a Quipu user. Someone posted their own rearrangement of Quipu - bigger numbers, stats moved to the sides - and asked for better legibility. We built it as a face of its own rather than changing Quipu underneath the people who already liked it. He bought it, and left the first review.
