The idea
Quipu is an instrument panel for people who like to see everything at a glance. A big, crisp clock sits in the middle. Around it: a three-day calendar strip that keeps yesterday and tomorrow in view, two progress arcs (your step goal on top, your battery below), and five stat slots you pin yourself. Everything is measured, aligned and legible, engineered like a gauge rather than decorated like a widget.
We designed it in Figma, rebuilt it pixel for pixel in Monkey C, and tuned it on a real wrist over three review rounds before it shipped. It is our own daily face.
The 32 stats
Five slots take any of 32 stats: two compact slots beside the calendar strip and three larger ones along the bottom. Mix them however you like, or leave bottom slots empty for a quieter face.
| Group | Stats |
|---|---|
| Activity | Steps, distance, floors up, floors down, calories, active calories, move bar, weekly run distance, weekly ride distance, moderate and vigorous intensity minutes |
| Health | Heart rate, resting heart rate, stress, Body Battery, Pulse Ox, respiration, VO2 Max, recovery time |
| Outside | Temperature, wind, humidity, UV index, pressure, altitude, sunrise, sunset, next sun event |
| Utility | Battery in days, notifications, ISO week number, second time zone |
One honest detail: the two slots beside the calendar strip fit four characters, so they skip the three sun-time stats (those need a clock format). The bottom slots take everything.
Color, weather, always-on
Sixteen accents from calm pastels to strong reds, plus Mono if you want no color at all. The accent runs along the arcs as a gradient, dark at the start and full strength at the progress marker, and a custom hex field accepts any color of your own.
MONO + 16 ACCENTS · OR TYPE ANY HEX CODE
Weather comes from Garmin's service or from MET Norway, the Norwegian national weather institute, free and with no account. And on AMOLED watches a true always-on mode with three intensity levels keeps the face visible within Garmin's burn-in rules.
Every setting, explained
Everything lives in the Connect IQ app on your phone: your device, then Watch Faces, then Quipu, then Settings. All of it translated into 24 languages. Tap a group to see its options.
Appearance
| Setting | Options | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Stat style | Icon + label / Icon only / Label only | How the five slots describe themselves. The reduced styles grow the numbers, so less decoration means easier reading. |
| Stat size | Larger / Smaller | The type size in the slots. Values auto-fit either way, so nothing ever clips, in any language. |
| Accent | Mono + 16 colors | The face's color, applied as a gradient along the arcs. |
| Custom accent | Any hex code | Overrides the accent list with your own color. |
| Accent reach | Arcs only / Arcs + details | Whether the color stays on the arcs or also tints slot markers and outlines. |
Date and text
| Setting | Options | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Date style | Classic / Big text / Big numeric | Classic keeps the compact date row. The two Big styles enlarge the date into a bold panel, the most requested change from our users. |
| Date text row | On / Off | Shows or hides the text line under the clock. |
| Custom text | Up to 14 characters | Replaces the date text with your own words: a name, a mantra, a race day. |
Arcs and goals
| Setting | Options | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Goal arcs | On / Off | Shows or hides both progress arcs with their percent labels and markers. |
| Step goal | 0 = automatic, or your number | At 0 the top arc follows the step goal from your Garmin profile. Type a number to set your own target. |
System
| Setting | Options | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Always-on intensity | Low / Medium / High | How much of the face stays visible in always-on mode (AMOLED watches). |
| Battery | Percent / Days remaining | How the battery gauge reports, as a percentage or as estimated days left (on watches that provide the estimate). |
| Weather source | Garmin / MET Norway | Where temperature, wind, humidity and UV come from. |
Data slots
| Setting | Options | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Side slot 1 and 2 | 29 stats | The two compact slots beside the calendar strip (no sun times, see above). |
| Bottom slot 1, 2, 3 | 32 stats + Empty | The three main slots along the bottom. Empty removes a slot cleanly. |
| Left mini-slot | Empty / Week / Heart rate / Temperature / VO2 Max | The small field beside the clock, paired with the seconds on the right. |
Time
| Setting | Options | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Seconds | Off / On wrist raise / Always | On wrist raise shows live seconds for a few moments after you look, the battery-friendly middle ground. |
| Time format | Auto / 12h / 24h | Auto follows the watch system setting. |
| Leading zero | On / Off | 07:30 versus 7:30. |
On the watch vs on the phone
On watches with Garmin's on-device editor (Fenix 8 and E, Venu 3 and 4, Vivoactive 5 and 6, Forerunner 570 and 970, Enduro 3, Instinct 3 AMOLED and other 2023+ models), hold the watch face and choose Customize to switch the accent and the stat style without touching the phone. Everything else, including which stat goes where, is set in the Connect IQ app. Older watches use the app for all settings, which takes the same few taps.
Works on
Quipu supports 60+ Garmin models across both display types. The full list is on the store page; by family:
| Family | Models |
|---|---|
| Fenix | Fenix 8 (43, 47, Solar 47, Solar 51), Fenix 8 Pro, Fenix E, Fenix 7 series (7S, 7, 7X, Pro), Fenix 6 series (6S, 6, 6X, Pro) |
| Forerunner | 165, 255, 265, 570, 955, 965, 970 |
| Venu / Vivoactive | Venu, Venu 2 (2S, 2 Plus), Venu 3 (3S), Venu 4 (41, 45), Vivoactive 4, 5, 6 |
| Epix / Enduro | Epix Gen 2 (42, 47, 51, Pro), Enduro, Enduro 3 |
| Instinct | Instinct 3 AMOLED (45, 50), Instinct Crossover AMOLED |
| Specialty | MARQ Gen 2, Approach S50 and S70, Descent G2, Mk2, Mk3, D2 Air X10, D2 Mach 1 and Mach 2 |
On AMOLED the face renders in full color with the gradient arcs. On MIP panels (Fenix, older Forerunners) the background stays black and each accent maps to the nearest tone the 64-color display can show. We compile and test against the weakest supported model first, so the face behaves the same on a Fenix 6S as on a Fenix 8.
The honest fine print
Weather and UV need your phone within Bluetooth reach now and then; without it the last known values stay on screen. Sunrise and sunset use your last GPS position. Active calories are our estimate (total burn minus your resting metabolism), which can differ slightly from the number in Garmin's own widget, a platform limitation every Connect IQ face shares. And on MIP displays the softest pastel accents lose some of their subtlety to the 64-color palette; the stronger accents translate best.
