The single most important fact about any Garmin for watch faces: what screen it has. MIP variants are always-on and sunlight-first with a limited palette; faces need dedicated MIP rendering to look right.

Frequently asked

Why do some store faces look washed out on my Fenix 7?

MIP shows 64 colors and reflects ambient light instead of emitting its own, so AMOLED-first designs with muted tones lose their contrast. Faces built for MIP use fewer, stronger colors on dark backgrounds. It is a design choice, not a defect of your watch.

Is there any reason to prefer MIP in 2026?

Sunlight and battery. A MIP face is fully readable at noon with zero backlight and the display costs almost nothing, which is why the Fenix 7 and the Fenix 8 Solar editions still sell. AMOLED wins indoors and at night.
