The display, per variant

The single most important fact about any Garmin for watch faces: what screen it has. MIP variants are always-on and sunlight-first with a limited palette; faces need dedicated MIP rendering to look right.

Hold UP (the middle-left button), then select Watch Face, scroll, confirm with START. New faces come from the Connect IQ store app on your phone; the install guide covers that end, and the per-model switching guide covers every other Garmin.

Frequently asked

Do Connect IQ faces work on the Fenix 8 Solar editions?

Yes, if the developer built for MIP. Solar editions have a 260 or 280 px transflective display with a limited palette, so faces designed only for AMOLED either look wrong there or exclude the Solar models. Our faces ship separate MIP rendering (except Tifo, which is AMOLED-only by design).

Does an always-on face hurt the Fenix 8 battery?

On the AMOLED editions, always-on display is the single biggest battery lever: expect days, not weeks, with AOD on. The Solar MIP editions display permanently by nature and sip power. Our battery explainer covers the numbers.
