How the connection actually works

Understanding one thing makes the rest obvious: Connect IQ has no Bluetooth connection of its own. It asks Garmin Connect for the watch. So a watch that is absent in Garmin Connect is always absent in Connect IQ, and a watch that is happily connected in Garmin Connect is usually one app restart away from working in Connect IQ.

The fix sequence

  1. Open Garmin Connect and wait for your watch to show as connected. If it does not connect here, fix that first: Bluetooth on, watch nearby and awake.
  2. Confirm both apps are signed into the same Garmin account. A mismatch produces exactly this silence.
  3. Toggle Bluetooth off and on, then reopen Garmin Connect, then Connect IQ.
  4. Restart the watch and the phone. This clears more Bluetooth-stack problems than any other step.
  5. Update both apps in your phone's app store, and let the watch take any pending firmware update.
  6. Reinstall the Connect IQ app. Its cached device state goes stale in a way sign-outs do not clear. Faces stay on the watch; purchases stay on your account.
  7. Still nothing: re-pair the watch in Garmin Connect (remove the device, add it again). Ten minutes, but it rebuilds the link from scratch.

The USB fallback (and what it tells you)

While the phone situation is unresolved you are not locked out: Garmin Express on a computer installs and updates Connect IQ content over USB, no Bluetooth involved. It doubles as a diagnosis: if Express works fine, your watch and account are healthy and the problem is confined to the phone's Bluetooth pairing, which points straight at step 7.

If it keeps coming back

A link that dies weekly is usually the phone's aggressive battery management killing Garmin Connect in the background (common on Android). Exempt Garmin Connect from battery optimization in the phone settings, and keep both apps updated; Garmin ships connectivity fixes in most releases.

Frequently asked

Garmin Connect sees my watch but Connect IQ says no device found.
The classic case. Force-close both apps, open Garmin Connect first and wait until the watch is connected, then open Connect IQ. If it still cannot see the watch, reinstall the Connect IQ app; that clears its cached device state and nothing of yours is lost.
Will reinstalling the Connect IQ app lose my faces or purchases?
No. Installed faces stay on the watch, and purchases are tied to your Garmin account. After reinstalling, sign in with the same account and everything is back.
Why does Garmin split this into two apps at all?
Garmin Connect handles health data and device management; Connect IQ is the store and settings hub for third-party apps and faces. They share the same Bluetooth connection, which is exactly why Connect IQ breaks when that link is unhealthy. Our Connect IQ explainer covers the split.
An install has been queued for hours. Is that this same problem?
Usually yes: a queued install that never lands means the app cannot reach the watch. Fix the connection with the sequence above, and the queue drains on its own. If one item stays jammed, remove it and start the install fresh.
